There were some good elements to this world, and it kept me reading, even in eBook form. I probably wouldn't have ever picked this up had it not been a student pick for a book club. But I'm not sad that I had to pick it up. Damning praise, eh? I'm just saying that as tired of magical romance as I am, this held my attention. Raisa is a good character and I was happy to see her move towards breaking the restraints of castle life. Cuffs was annoying, but that's sort of how he was supposed to be (charming can read as annoying very easily). I'm rooting for Amon and Averill. The character interactions and motivations are three dimensional for the most part (so, they're not the most original characters ever). and Williams Chima does brave, irreversible things to them.
