The issues I have with Rabid have more to do with my expectations than with the book's intentions. It clearly says it's a cultural history on the cover, and it lives up to that - objectively I will say that it strikes me as too digressive.
Basically I wanted more medical stories - more Rabies, less Rabid. Sure, reading about rabies in culture yields interesting tidbits, but none of them really compare to reading about a disease that turns your brain against your most basic instincts.
