I have read only one other book that was about making music that didn't feel fake to me (Moonhead and the Music Machine). And I've been in a YA slump and this book made me have hope for myself that not all YA would become boring. It's a road trip book about escaping jazz camp and learning to embrace a little sincerity in your life. There are awkward hookup/friendship/losing your virginity scenes that are funny and realistic, not teen movie version of life realistic. The whole premise is a bit heightened reality, but the relationships are just as confusing as real life.
